Our Work

Iowa County Community Development is a public-private partnership of communities, the county, chambers, businesses and industry. These robust partnerships allow us to promote the betterment of Iowa County through quality of life initiatives, development of vibrant communities, attraction of new business and enhancing existing businesses and industry. ICCD is also active in growing child care, new housing and workforce development.

Iowa Valley Community School District

The Iowa Valley Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Marengo, Iowa. The district spans areas of north-central Iowa County. The district includes schools from preschool to 12th grade.

English Valleys Community School District

English Valleys Community School District is located in southeastern Iowa and serves the communities of North English, South English, Kinross, Webster, Deep River, and Millersburg.

Williamsburg Community School District

The 2021-22 school year will mark the 136th year of consecutive public school education under the name of  Williamsburg Community School District. WCSD is a community where academics, the fine arts, and athletics are all highly valued and vigorously supported.

The district serves 2,900 students preK-12 and covers over 175 square miles of beautiful eastern Iowa countryside.The mission of the Clear Creek Amana Community School District is to prepare students to be productive, responsible, community members by providing an environment that inspires quality life-long learning.

Iowa County is home to six vibrant communities with five quality school districts. The Amana Colonies are home to Iowa’s largest contiguous farm and Iowa’s premier tourism destination. Compass Memorial Healthcare offers first class regional healthcare from their hospital in Marengo and clinics in Amana, North English, Williamsburg and Victor. Higher education opportunities abound with easy access to Kirkwood Community College, the University of Iowa and several private colleges within a short 30-mile radius.

Workforce and Laborshed Analysis

Workers in Iowa County and from nearby communities provide the talent pool powering a diverse mix of nationally known employers. Those employers are leaders in tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture. Iowa County’s workforce illustrates the high quality of Iowa’s educational system including PreK-12 schools, community colleges, private colleges and major universities. 

LaborShed Analysis

The purpose of a Laborshed analysis is to measure the availability and characteristics of workers within the region. The Laborshed data generated will aid local development officials in their facilitation of industry expansion and recruitment and their service to existing industry in the area. Detailed data describing the characteristics of the available labor force including current/desired wage rates and benefits, job qualifications and skills, age cohorts, residence/work location, employment requirements/obstacles and the distances individuals are willing to travel for employment are included in the study. Survey respondents from the Iowa County Laborshed area were asked to identify the industry in which they are currently working. The largest concentration of workers are employed in the manufacturing, health care and education industries. Iowa County has a storied history of innovation and manufacturing. Iowa County is home to several manufacturing facilities; generating over 4,500 jobs and creating everything from appliances to auto parts to farm implements. Iowa County manufacturers work locally and ship globally.
